We are very pleased
that you have found our website and hope that it
will be a good and useful introduction to our
school.
“Lytchett Matravers is a good school. It has
some outstanding features . . . “
Although it is perhaps disappointing to lose our
‘Outstanding’ label from Ofsted we did not expect to
achieve ‘Outstanding’ under the new framework used
for inspections. It has been acknowledged that we
have a fantastic school and continue to provide a
tremendous education for all pupils. Unfortunately,
the previously noted problems with our SATs scores
in 2008 and 2009 mean that we were unable to attain
and ‘Outstanding’ grade.
Here are a few quotes from the latest report:
“It provides an exciting and stimulating curriculum
which inspires pupils and enables them to achieve
well.”
“...any pupils having difficulties or performing
particularly well are swiftly identified and a
programme put in place to ensure the right level of
support or challenge is offered.”
“Pupils are well motivated and keen to do well. They
thrive in the nurturing atmosphere…”
“Behaviour in and around the
school is outstanding.”
“Teaching is lively and
exciting.”
“All pupils, including those with special
educational needs make good progress.”
“The whole of the school environment … is used to
good effect and helps to bring subjects such as
science alive…”
“...every child’s needs are individually known and
catered for.”
“Pupils receive exceptionally good support for their
personal development and are very well cared for.”

Our School
Originally
opened in 1874, our school moved to its
present site in 1992. Our new building was
designed for 360 children. By 1995, two
mobile classrooms were needed. It 2005, we
added the new "Geoff Holland wing" housing
our two reception classes.
Our teaching
ensures that we deliver the
national
curriculum and national strategies for
literacy and
mathematics. This is achieved
through termly topics that enable us to
develop cross curricular links.
Our school
council, with representatives from each
class meets weekly. Minutes of these
meetings can be found by clicking here:

Our PTA
We have a
tremendous PTA that supports our school in
many ways. They now have their own website
that can be accessed via the drop down menu
