Welcome                                                                                                                           last updated 15.11.2009

We are very pleased that you have found our website and hope that it will be a good and useful introduction to our school.

Ofsted, in March 2007, identified us as an 'outstanding' school. We are absolutely delighted by this but will continue to seek ways of improving the education we provide for all pupils. To download a copy of the full report please click here: Ofsted 2007. We will continue to  regularly review all of our whole school polices which you may look at online or request from our office. Click to see a list of those currently available.

Our School

Originally opened in 1874, our school moved to its present site in 1992. Our new building was designed for 360 children. By 1995, two mobile classrooms were needed. It 2005, we added the new "Geoff Holland wing" housing our two reception classes.

Our teaching ensures that we deliver the national curriculum and national strategies for literacy and mathematics. This is achieved through termly topics that enable us to develop cross curricular links.

Our school council, with representatives from each class meets weekly. Minutes of these meetings can be found by clicking here: School Council Minutes

Our PTA

We have a tremendous PTA that supports our school in many ways. They now have their own website that can be accessed via the drop down menu above (Parents - PTA) or by clicking here: PTA

Welcome Back!

2009/10 already promises to be an exciting year, with many new changes and challenges.

We have renamed all of our classes and welcome a number of new teachers to our staff. For an up to date list please see the staff list in the 'Our School' drop-down menu above.

In order to provide hot school meals, next year, and to enhance our PE provision we are investigating the addition of a new sports hall. If we are successful with this project it will provide a fantastic facility for the school that can, hopefully, be shared with the whole village.

Keeping in Touch

Whenever possible letters and other messages are sent to parents using 'Parentmail'. This system allows parents to register their email addresses with us so that we greatly reduce the amount of paper communications that are sent home. If you wish to register your email address please contact the school office: (office@lytchettmatravers.dorset.mg4l.net)

On the last Monday of each month, all parents are sent a copy of 'Roundabout', our school newsletter. These are now emailed to parents who have access to computers and the internet, using 'Parentmail'.

To download copies of past newsletters and other letters sent home in the last month click here.

School Nurse 'Drop-Ins'

Our school nurse holds free 'drop-in' sessions every half-term. These are opportunities for parents to chat with her about any issues, medical or emotional, that may affect your children. For dates please refer to our weekly diary (link below). - next visit: tba

Vouchers

An enormous thank you to everyone who has donated vouchers from Sainsbury's or Tesco. We collected a total of over 14,000 vouchers from Sainsbury's and over 65,000 from Tesco.

As a result, we have ordered a wide range of resources for the benefit of the children. These include digital cameras, sports equipment, topic books and equipments for cooking and gardening.

We displayed the items at our Autumn Parents' Evenings so that parents could see what we have 'bought'.

Dorset Children's Information Service

Dorset provide support for families by providing details of facilities and resources available for children. These include registered and unregistered activities for all ages of children across Dorset, registered before and after school clubs, registered childcare, activities for pre-school age children, help with the costs of childcare, play/skate parks and support groups. In addition to our service directory they are extending their range of information to include the 0 to 19 age group.
